The Hebrew letter Alef was originally a picture of an ox or bull and is put in the place of vowels–jots and tiddles are added to tell you what vowel it is going to be
It *means* strength, leader, first.
The word for Father is ab or av and the second letter, bet (vet) is from the picture tent or house. Bet *means* household, in, into, family. Father is alef bet and “Father” is the leader or the strength of the family, the first to start it He is the one who instructs the children, responsible for their discipline. He *started* the family and is expected to take care of it! This does not mean he is the *boss* because GOD is the “strong authority”~!
In fact, God is el which is alef (meaning above) and lamed which is a picture of a cattle goad. Lamed *means* control, authority, the tongue. So God (el) is the first or the strong authority.
If a man tries to be the authority he is trying to take God’s place. But a man should be able to be trusted to be the strong leader BECAUSE he is tuned into and listening to the strong authority (God).
Mother is em. Alef mem. Mem is the picture of water and it *means* liquid, massive, chaos. She is the “the strong water” or “life giver”.
Eve was created to be a ezer for Adam. ayin, zayin, reysh
ayin: to see, know, experience (or the eye, look, appearance or understand or experience)
zayin: cut, to cut off, weapon
reysh: a person, the head, the highest, head
To see what comes to cut off the head–it’s a role of protector for the man!
This is a word used of God by Samuel, among others.
Gen 2:24 is the FOUNDATIONAL verse for marriage. NOT Ephesians! Ephesians 5, according to Paul, is to EXPLAIN Gen 2:24 and the mystery it holds. Remember that this verse is from BEFORE the Fall! After the Fall, Eve is told how the dynamics of the marriage relationship has *changed* because of sin. Paul is explaining how Messiah has RESTORED the dynamics of the marriage relationship
Gen 2:24 “Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh”
man is ‘iysh and is alef yood sheen
alef: strength, leader, first
yood: work, a deed, to make
sheen: to consume, to destroy
“first made to destroy”–he was made first with the strength to destroy. When in alignment with God he can destroy chaos. When out of alignment with God he can destroy those around him (see below)
leave is ayin zayin bet
ayin: to see, know, experience
zayin: cut, to cut off, weapon
bet: household, in, into, family
experience cutting off from the family
cleave is dalet bet koof
dalet: pathway, to enter, door
bet: household, in, into, family
koof: behind, the last, the least
enter the family as the least
He *starts* the family by proposing and becoming the father. He is the source of the family and through him a family is born but it’s a position of servanthood and humility.
Wife is ‘ishah and is alef sheen hey
alef: strength, leader, first
sheen: work, a deed, to make
hey: ‘the’, to reveal
the first made to reveal
She gives life, her work is to birth, she is also a leader! And she has strength.
The two letters that are different in man and woman are yood hey
yood: work, a deed, to make
hey: ‘the’, to reveal
The creator revealed. THIS is the mystery!!! Marriage is designed to reveal the creator. Man and woman together reveals the creator!!!
BUT–if the yood and hey are removed from the marriage, if the revelation of the creator is not present then you are left with:
esh which is fire
alef sheen
alef: strength, leader, first
sheen: to consume, to destroy
strong devourer
If God is not in the marriage then it burns with a fire that is a strong devourer–of the people in the marriage and often of the marriage itself.
And, remember, God is the STRONG AUTHORITY! So with God’s authority being what leads the marriage the marriage reveals the Creator. If God is not the strong authority leading the marriage, with both parties in submission to HIM, then they burn each other up
Gen 3:16 is the condition of the marriage after the Fall and Eve is told:
“Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire [shall be] to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.”
The childbirth issue is for another time but thy desire [shall be] to thy husband and he shall rule over thee. The brackets mean that [shall be] is not in the Hebrew so “thy desire to thy husband and he shall rule over thee”.
“and thy desire” is tav sheen vav koof hey
tav: to seal, to covenant, sign (in the shape of a cross! in the ancient Hebrew)
sheen: to consume, to destroy
vav: ‘and’, to add, to secure, nail, peg
koof: behind, the last, the least
hey: ‘the’, to reveal, behold
–now, the word for desire that I believe is alluded to here is reysh tsadik hey and means “what comes from a person being hooked. That would describe what Eve was supposed to be before the Fall–hooked to Adam.
So Eve is supposed to be hooked on her husband, but instead she is in a covenant that consumes and destroys and nails her to what was meant to reveal and/or in a covenant where she destroys the security beheld.
[In Prov 31 what is usually translated "virtuous woman" or "excellent wife" is actually "chayil" or chet yood lamed
shet: private, to separate
yood: work, a deed, to make
lamed: control, authority, the tongue
blb.org defines chayil as
1) strength, might, efficiency, wealth, army
a) strength
b) ability, efficiency
c) wealth
d) force, army
But it comes from the ancient Hebrew root word tav vav lamed
tav: to seal, to covenant, sign (cross)
vav: 'and', to add, to secure
lamed: control, authority, the tongue
Covenant to add and secure the authority
Rather than "virtuous" or "excellent" Dr. Frank T. Seekins suggests "Valiant Ally" and this fits more with the word pictures.
She is the life giver who has covenanted to secure the marriage and keep God as the authority so that her husband can be protected! This is how Eve completely failed Adam. She did not see the threat, she did not protect the marriage, she was not a valiant ally.]
“and he shall rule” is mem sheen lamed
mem: liquid, massive, chaos
sheen: to consume, to destroy
lamed: control, authority, the tongue
chaos consuming with authority (from the tongue)
Eve is told by God that because she failed at her job she will desire the relationship to be what it was before but her husband will control her and the chaos of that will consume the marriage. The marriage will be out of God’s plan and exist in chaos.
This plays out literally in them being out of the Garden and generationally with the chaos that consumes their children and relationally because they are no longer “One”/Echad.
Echad is Alef chet dalet
alef: strength, leader, first
chet: private, to separate
dalet: pathway, to enter, door
The strength to separate through entering the door–set apart with and by Messiah who IS the Door. No one comes to the Father except “through Him”.
This goes back to the man, woman, fire discussion above. God was out of the relationship and they would burn each other up. Fire was now the condition of their relationship, not echad.
